Welcome to
Crowl Connections
In the late 1800’s a man named Henry Crowel of Dayton, Ohio did extensive letter writing and some research on the Crowel name of many spellings. I have to give Mr. Crowel credit for the work he did. His research was done at a time when research was very difficult. Travel was not as easy as it is today. I find it hard to imagine how many letter the man wrote and how he organized his research with no computer.
On May 20, 1899 he published a Crowel history entitled “Footprints in the Sands of Time”. This book, which I will refer to as “Footprints” and a supplement written a few years later, although long out of print, still exists in a few libraries and in the homes of families who purchased the book. A great deal of the information in “Footprints” has proven to be correct. But some big errors have been found. Attention to these errors will be noted in the following pages with corrections.
In 1958 a gentleman of Toledo, Ohio retyped the original “Footprints” and added his own family line, which had only been touched upon in “Footprints”. Another version was written in 1988 adding family members from the area of Stark Co., and Carrol County, OH continuing and accepting the same misinformation from the book “Footprints”.
